Type or paste your text and the code appears as you go. There is no limit. A copy of the text is kept for safety review when you download the code, so do not put passwords or private notes in it.

Scanning shows the text on screen. Long text makes a denser code that is harder to scan, so keep it short when you can.

How to turn text into a QR code in 3 simple steps.

No account and no watermark. Free to download as PNG or SVG.

1

Type your text

Write or paste your message, serial number, instructions or any other plain text. Line breaks are kept.

2

Customize

Choose colors, shape and size, and add a logo if you need one. High error correction helps on printed labels.

3

Download and test

Save it as a PNG or SVG and scan it. Most phones show the text on screen and offer to copy it.

What a text QR code does

A text QR code holds plain words and numbers. When a phone scans it, the text is shown on screen with options to copy or search it. There is no link and no website involved, which makes text codes the simplest kind: they work offline, never expire and cannot be switched off.

There is a size limit. A QR code can hold a few thousand characters at the very most, and the more text you add, the denser and harder to scan the pattern gets. For anything beyond a couple of sentences, put the text on a web page and use the URL to QR code tool instead.

Good uses for text QR codes

Serial numbers and asset tags

Label equipment with an ID that any phone can read without special software.

Short instructions

Put a care guide, a locker combination reminder or a short how-to on an item.

Secret messages and puzzles

Hide clues in a treasure hunt, a classroom game or an escape room.

Greeting cards

Add a hidden message to a card or gift tag that the receiver scans to read.

Event codes and vouchers

Share a promo code, a coupon number or a short welcome note at a booth or counter.

Common questions answered.

A few thousand characters at the very most, and far less if you want it to scan easily. Keep text short, around a few hundred characters or fewer, for reliable scanning on small prints.
Yes. The tool encodes text as UTF-8, so accented letters, Arabic, Chinese, Cyrillic and emojis all work. They take more space than plain English letters, so the code gets denser.
No. The phone reads the text straight from the code, with no connection needed.
The code is drawn in your browser. When you download it, a copy of the text is kept for up to 90 days so our team can check for scams and harmful content, and then it is deleted. We do not sell it or use it for anything else. Because of this, never put passwords or private notes in a text code. See the Privacy Policy.
No. A static text code holds the information itself and does not rely on any website or service.
